MJB&A has released the 2020 edition of the Benchmarking Air Emissions report. The report compares the air pollution emissions of the 100 largest power producers in the United States based on their 2018 generation, plant ownership, and emissions data. The producers covered in the report include public and private entities that own more than 3,000 power plants and account for 80 percent of reported electric generation and 82 percent of the industry's reported carbon emissions. The report focuses on four power plant pollutants for which public emissions data are available: sulfur dioxide (SO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), mercury (Hg), and carbon dioxide (CO2).
The Benchmarking series began in 1997 and uses publicly reported data to compare the emissions performance of the 100 largest power producers in the United States. A press release on this year's report is available here. Explore analysis data and maps using an interactive dashboard here.
