New York Times Cites MJB&A Report on Costs and Air Quality Benefits of Phasing Out Older Trucks in New York City's Commerical Carting Fleet

A November 11, 2013 article in the New York Times, "New York Looks to Cut Emissions by Private Trash Haulers," cites a recent MJB&A-authored report for the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and the New York City Business Integration Commission (NYCBIC) on the costs and air quality benefits of setting "age-out" provisions for the commercial carting fleet in New York City.  The report shows that commercial waste trucks in New York City contribute one-fifth of the city's particle air pollution, and a rule adopted December 30, 2013, that requires these trucks to comply with EPA's 2007 particulate emissions standards for heavy-duty diesel trucks by 2020 will significantly cut emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter and provide health benefits. An EDF press release provides additional information on the report.
